Citizen Voice’s summer events were a splash!
Romanelli swims a 10K - that's 440 laps - for SAFELY OUT™!
Soaring through a 10k – 440 laps of generosity – Bill Romanelli swam to raise money for Citizen Voice’s SAFELY OUT™ Project Saturday, June 2nd at the Folsom Aquatic Center. Cheered on by the huge weekend crowd, staff kept track of Bill’s laps, one-by-one, on a large tally sheet. On-lookers passed by also keeping track of Bill’s progress.
At each 100 lap milestone, announcements were made over the entire aquatic center's public address system updating the hundreds in attendance on Bill’s lap status and explaining the reason for the event. After finishing the swim, Bill exited the pool greeted by a row of fans clapping and congratulating him on his accomplishment. Recognized for his support of the SAFELY OUT™ Project, Bill was awarded a fun medal, wrapped in a Batman "superhero" towel and given plastic floaties (in case his swimming arms were tired for the next few weeks!)
Citizen Voice thanks all who sponsored Swim for Life 2012 and has created a video to highlight the event:
Hiking all 3 rims of Yosemite in 3 days – to protect a national treasure!
The majestic three rims of Yosemite - Half Dome, North Dome and Glacier Point - were both conquered and appreciated in three consecutive days as trekkers gave their all to protect this national treasure. Partnering with Bayside Adventure Sports (BAS), Citizen Voice’s 3RIMS3DAYS: Trek to Protect a National Treasure fits well with CV's mission to protect all things vulnerable.
Trekkers raised sponsorship for their journey the proceeds of which will be shared by The Yosemite Conservancy, BAS and CV. Trekkers covered over 40+ miles and 14,000 ft. in elevation gain. What some trekkers thought might be simply a mountainous long weekend turned into an intense personal growth experience both physically and mentally. Citizen Voice and BAS hosted a 3RIMS3DAYS 2012 Flashback evening reuniting hikers after the trek where they shared their videos, pictures and personal experiences. Partakers agreed the steep cable ascent to summit Half Dome and the 22 mile second day “North Dome stretch" were the toughest parts. Trekkers pushed themselves to the limit like never before, with the advantage of a safe, well-planned, guided and great-food-supplied event.
Watch the 3RIMS3DAYS recap video below and consider signing-up for next year’s trek - June 12-16, 2013 - as soon as 2013 3Rims3Days registration opens this fall!
SAFELY OUT™ is ALIVE at THRIVE 2012
Recognizing that many in communities around the country turn to churches and faith-based organizations for help in times of disaster, Citizen Voice was excited for the invitation to introduce the SAFELY OUT™ Project to the faith community nationwide for the first time during the THRIVE 2012 leadership conference . The reaction was exceedingly positive, as CV's SAFELY OUT™ project offers a great way for people of faith to reach out. Citizen Voice’s SAFELY OUT™ Project breakout session had a full house which included a number of experienced first responders -- a CERT member, nurses and a Hurricane Katrina responder. The session was hosted by Citizen Voice President Gary Dietrich and CV’s Communications Director Kerry Shearer.
Guests appreciated Citizen Voice’s mission to protect the vulnerable and many signed-up to begin taking steps to protect the vulnerable in their communities through SAFELY OUT™. The Citizen Voice booth also welcomed many who picked-up the S.O. Project materials needed to implement SAFELY OUT™ through their organization and hundreds of SAFELY OUT™ Kits were distributed throughout the three day conference.
The annual THRIVE conference is one of the largest faith-based leadership events in the western U.S.
